Common questions

How do I move my cards to a new phone?
  1. On your old phone, go to Settings → Back up now, choose a backup password, and save the file to iCloud Drive or Google Drive.
  2. On the new phone, install Family Gift Cards and tap Moving from another phone? Restore a backup on the welcome screen.
  3. Choose the backup file, enter its password, and set up the lock.

This works between any phones: iPhone to iPhone, Android to Android, and iPhone to Android or back.

Can I keep my backup in OneDrive?

Yes, but iCloud Drive on iPhone and Google Drive on Android are more reliable. OneDrive isn't available under Save to a folder, so use the share menu instead:

  • iPhone: on the Back Up screen, tap Share instead, then choose OneDrive (it may be under More).
  • Android: tap Save to Google Drive, then choose OneDrive in the menu. OneDrive sometimes blocks the save on Android.

Either way, check that the file is in OneDrive before you tap Yes, I can see the file.

If OneDrive's passcode lock is on, it won't open when you restore on iPhone. Open the file in the OneDrive app, save it to Files, and restore from there.

I forgot my backup password.

For your security, backup passwords can't be recovered, by us or anyone else. If you still have the phone with your cards, simply make a new backup with a new password and keep that password somewhere safe.

I forgot my app PIN.

For your security, the app PIN can't be reset or recovered. After several wrong tries the app makes you wait before trying again, so keep trying patiently if you think you remember it.

If it's truly forgotten, delete the app, install it again, and use Moving from another phone? Restore a backup on the welcome screen with your latest backup file. Anything added after that backup will need to be entered again.

Face ID or fingerprint isn't working.

If Face ID or your fingerprint doesn't work, your phone offers its passcode instead. If you turned off your phone's screen lock, the app asks you to create an app PIN so your cards stay protected.

The store's scanner can't read my barcode.
  • Open the card and tap it to show the barcode. The app turns your screen brightness all the way up.
  • Hold the phone steady, a few inches from the scanner, and make sure nothing covers the screen.
  • If it still doesn't scan, the cashier can type the card number shown under the barcode.
Why might the balance be different from the store's?

The balance is an estimate based on what you enter. The app doesn't connect to stores or card issuers, so it can't see purchases you haven't logged, fees, or changes the store makes. After you use a card, open it and add the purchase or tap Update balance. The receipt or the store's website shows the exact balance.

After moving phones, the app says "Your card numbers are locked".

This can happen when the app moves to a new phone without its security key (for example with some phone-to-phone transfers). Your balances, family members, activity and photos are safe. Choose one:

  • Restore from a backup file (best): brings back everything, including card numbers.
  • Keep my cards without their numbers: keeps everything else; you can type each number again from the physical card later.
I can't take a screenshot on Android.

On Android, the Privacy cover hides your cards in the recent-apps screen, and it also blocks screenshots. To take a screenshot (of a barcode, for example), turn it off in Settings → Security → Privacy cover.

How do I change the language?

Go to Settings → Language and choose English, Español, or your phone's language.

How do I delete all my information?

Go to Settings → Erase all data, or delete the app from your phone. Backup files you saved stay where you put them; delete them there too if you no longer want them.

Preguntas frecuentes

¿Cómo paso mis tarjetas a un teléfono nuevo?
